DHAKA: Prime Minister also the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina asked her party leaders to unearth the reasons behind the large-margin defeat of AL-nominated mayoral candidate in Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) election.

Besides, Sheikh Hasina directed the central AL leaders to intensify organizational and political activities across the country, as a preparation for the next national parliamentary election.   

The prime minister came up with the instruction in a meeting with the AL presidium members, at her government residence Ganabhaban Saturday (December 23).

“Our candidate wasn’t doing well. It was being presumed that he couldn’t be the winner”, she said as quoted by a meeting source.

“The election was held fairly there. But, what is the reason of the defeat by such huge vote differences? Where the problem was should be investigated”, she added. 

The meeting also discussed about nominating candidate for the upcoming by polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).  

“We should showcase the development and success of the government, to the people. We should go close to the people. We should repeatedly focus the development work we have done and how the people are benefiting from it.”
