PATUAKHALI: Former President and also Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad said the next general election must be held under the Sheikh Hasina government. 

Moreover, his party is ready to take part in the next election independently, he added.

Ershad made the remarks to reporters during a personal tour to Kuakata area in Kalapara upazila of Patukhali on Monday noon (Dec 25).

He said, “Rangpur City Corporation polls is an example of free and fair election. The Election Commission will make history if such polls can be implemented in the rest of the country.”

“We will observe the political condition of ruling Awami League and opposition BNP before making a move in future. We are preparing to contest in 300 seats; however, it hasn’t been final yet.”

The former president also said the ruling AL is in a strong position and he wants the election to be held under this government as per constitution.
