Expelled BCL leader Arif held in rape case

SHARIATPUR: Police on Tuesday (December 26) arrested Arif Hawlader in a case filed with Bhedarganj Police Station in Shariatpur for allegedly raping women and spreading video footages on the internet.

Arif was arrested from Saikka Bridge area near Jointika River at Gosairhat upazila of the district at about 4:30 pm.

Arif Hawlader is son of Mintu Hawlader of Ferangikandi village under Narayanpur union of Bhedarganj upazila. He was general secretary of Narayanpur union unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

He was expelled from the organization after incident came in the light. Arif went into hiding since November 11, as the rape case was filed against him on that day.

He was accused of installing hidden camera in female washroom and took footage of women taking bath.

Then, he raped the six women after blackmailing them with the video clips. Later, he uploaded the rape scenes on the internet.

One of the victims filed a case against Arif Hawlader with Bhedarganj Police Station under Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Act on November 11.
