DHAKA: The defence in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against BNP chief Khaleda Zia started presenting its argument for the fourth day.
Khaleda Zia reached the special court installed on the premises of jail department's parade ground in city's Bakshibazaar area at around 11:15am Wednesday (December 27).
The BNP chief’s lawyer Advocate Abdur Rezzak Khan is presenting arguments on behalf of Khaleda, till filing this report at around 11:56pm.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu, Advocate Meer Abdus Salam, Advocate Amin Uddin Manik moved for ACC, the plaintiff, at the courtroom.
Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Joynal Abedin, Secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocate Sanaullah Mia and Masud Ahmed Talukder were among others moved for Khaleda.
On Tuesday (December 26), Judge of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Md Akhtaruzzaman adjourned the defense argument till Wednesday.
On December 5, Khaleda Zia surrendered before a special court and received bail in the two cases.
On August 8 in 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station in the city, accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources through power abuse.
On July 3 in 2008, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station, accusing Khaleda Zia, her elder son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that was received as grants for orphans via a foreign bank.
