Ctg UP chairman now suspended

CHITTAGONG: Chairman of Shikolbaha Union Parishad at Karnaphuli in Chittagong Jahangir Alam, who along with his men armed with sticks allegedly swooped on Victory Day celebration program and foiled it, has been suspended.

He was suspended in line with an order issued by the Local Government Ministry.

The suspension order signed by senior assistant secretary of the Local Government Division (LGD) Dr Syeda Nowshin Panini reached the office of deputy commissioner (DC) of Chitagong at noon on Thursday (December 28).

Staff officer of the DC office Ramiz Uddin told Banglanews that they received the letter of Jahangir’s suspension. It has already been effective, he said.

On December 16, the Karnaphuli upazila administration arranged a daylong event at AJ Chowdhury Degree College under Shikolbaha union in the upazila on the occasion of the Victory Day 2017.

Local Awami League leader and chairman of the union Jahangir Alam along with his men foiled the program alleging that he did not get invitation letter.

On December 20, office assistant of the UNO office Dipu Chakma filed a case against Jahangir Alam and 500 other unnamed men for attacking on the function.

On December 24, the public administration ministry issued a gazette notification making upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Karnaphuli Bijen Banarjee OSD (officer on special duty).

Later on December 26, the ministry withdrew the gazette notification following pressure from officials of the administration.
