DHAKA: The voting of different local government bodies took place at 127 areas of the country on Thursday (December 28) amid tight security.
The polls were held in 115 Union Parishads, 9 municipalities, 2 Zilla Parishad wards and an Upazila Parishad in different parts of the country.
The voting began at 8:00 am and continued till 4:00 pm without any break.
However, voting to the two wards of Noakhali Zilla Parishad took place from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm where only the public representatives will cast the votes.
Results of the some areas were announced unofficially. In some municipalities and the UPs, the ruling Awami League-nominated candidates won, while BNP-nominated candidates won the polls in some other areas.
By-polls were held at three municipalities and 78 UPs. The by-polls were held in an Upazila Parishad for electing the vice chairman.
The regular polls were held in six other municipalities. These are-Faridpur’s Afladanga, Rajshahi’s Bagha, Natore’s Bonpara, Panchagarh’s Boda, Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj, and Dinajpur’s Birol.
Regular and delayed polls were held at as many as 37 UPs: Alfadanga, Buraich and Gopalpur in Faridpur; Mulna in Shariatpur, Zinnagarh, Nilkamal and Aminabad in Bhola; Ronagopaldi in Patuakhali; Nurpur and Brahmandora in Habiganj; Fultola in Moulvibazar; Joyari and Majhgaon in Natore district; Razarampur in Dinajpur; Ghuridah in Gaibandha; Uthli, Kedike and Manoharpur in Chuadanga; Bakoi Dakkhin, Mudaffarganj Uttor, Mudaffarganj Dakkhin, Doulkhar, Raikot Uttor, Raikot Dakkhin, Adra Uttar, Adra Dakkhin, Jodda Purbo, Jodda Pachim, Bottoli, Iliotganj Dakkhin, Barpara, Doulotpur and Bakoi Uttar in Comilla; Noyainnai, Noakhali and Dharmapur in Noakhali; and Char Alexander in Laxmipur.
