AL won’t take street on Khaleda’s verdict day

DHAKA: Awami League senior leader and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that the leaders and activists of the ruling party won’t take the streets marking the verdict against BNP chief Khaleda Zia Thursday (February 8).

“Police will be deployed on the streets on the day of verdict in the case against Khaleda Zia, for ensuring security. No Awami League leaders and activists will take the streets”, he said.

The minister was talking to the reporters during a deal signing ceremony, at his secretariat Tuesday (February 6).

However, the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia will be delivered on February 8 (Thursday).

In July 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case accusing Khaleda, her son BNP's senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore grant money for orphans.
