HC stays Khaleda’s two arson cases

Dhaka: The High Court on Sunday (April 09) stayed the trial proceedings of two arson cases filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. The HC also issued rule in the cases.

The HC bench of Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah issued the order following two separate petitions filed by the BNP chief challenging the trial proceedings of the two cases.
 
Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon moved for Khaleda Zia in the cases.

A vehicle of Ekattor TV channel and another vehicle of the New Vision service were set ablaze at Darus Salam area in the city in February in 2015 during the anti-government movement.   

Police filed two cases with Darussalam police station on February 10 and 20 in this connection.

Police submitted charge sheets of the cases on May 12 and May 14 in 2016 respectively. The lower court accepted the charge sheets on August 10.
