DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday (April 12) asked Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, to surrender at trial court within eight weeks.
The court also pronounced that the trial of the case, filed against her by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on charge of hiding information of wealth, will also run.
An HC bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice Krishna Debnath gave the verdict.
Earlier on January 10, the court kept the judgment as ‘CAV’ (curia advisari vult or keeping the judgment until a later time) after holding hearing of a rule in this regard.
On November 2 in 2016, a member of an HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hasan felt embarrassed to hear the case and sent it to Chief Justice. The CJ, later, formed a third bench and sent it for hearing.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for ACC in the court while deputy attorney general Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir moved for state.
On September 26 in 2007, ACC filed the lawsuit with Kafrul Thana in the capital against Tarique’s wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and his mother-in-law Iqbal M Banu on charge of hiding information of Tk 48,153,561.
