DHAKA: An arrest warrant was issued against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman's mother-in-law Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu in a case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Senior Special Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla of Dhaka issued the warrant on Wednesday (April 12).
Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Tapash Kumar Pal told banglanews that the court passed the order after taking cognizance of the charges brought by ACC and fixed May 14 for the arrest report update of Banu.
According to case statements, on January 25 in 2014, ACC sent a notice to Banu for submitting her wealth statement.
Banu then filed a writ against the notice with the High Court and got a stay order.
In response to an appeal by the ACC against the order, the apex court then halts it.
On January 30, ACC deputy director RK Majumdar filed the case with Ramna Police Station in Dhaka as Banu refused to submit wealth statement.
