DHAKA: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday (June 23) called upon the countrymen to give scope to the Awami League for serving the country again.
“Bangladesh gained independence, development and is marching forwards led by Awami League. It is my call on the occasion of founding anniversary of Awami League this time as to the party can get the scope to serve the country again, she said.
The prime minister was addressing at a meeting of Awami League activists, after laying the foundation stone of the central office of the party at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka, around 10 in the morning.
Sheikh Hasina said, “Bangabandhu dreamt for building the country as ‘Sonar Bangla’. I am doing the incomplete part of that work of my father. Bangladesh would have been developed and enriched much ago if he (Bangabandhu) were alive.”
“Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will be in 2020. We will build the country as free from hunger and poverty before that”, she added.
However, Awami League and its different associate bodies observed the party’s 68th founding anniversary on Friday.
