SIRAJGANJ: A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, was killed in an attack carried out by rivals in Khalipapatti area of Sirajganj town on Sunday noon (Oct 29).
The deceased, identified as Abdul Malek, 25, son of one Sanowar Hossain of Dwattabari area of the town, was a BCL secretary of religious affairs.
Police detained six people in suspicion if their involvement in the matter.
Sirajganj sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Helaluddin told Banglanews that a clash broke out between two groups after one Nazrul confronted deceased’s elder brother, Malek, in front of a shop, Kanu Jewellers, demanding the money he owed. Malek was critically injured in the clash and later rushed to Sirajganj sadar hospital where on-duty physician declared him dead.
Extra police force has been deployed in the area to avert and untoward situation. A case filling in this connection is underway, he added.
