JCD leader killed in factional clash in Sylhet

SYLHET: A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of BNP, was killed in a factional clash in Sylhet on Monday (January 1).

The deceased was identified as Abul Hasnat Shimu, 25, son of Abdul Aziz of Arambagh area of the city. He was the former organizing secretary of Ward-19 of the city.

The incident took place during a procession marking the founding anniversary of JCD held at Hasan Court Point area of the city at around 4:30 pm.  

Eyewitness said Shimu was stabbed by a JCD activist and taken to M.A.G. Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sylhet Kotwali model police station Gosul Hossain told Banglanews that Shimu was killed during a fight between two rival groups of JCD.

However, no body has been arrested yet, OC added.
