DHAKA: BNP will stage demonstration at every thana of the capital on Saturday (Jan 6) protesting authorities’ rejection to allow the party for holding its pre-scheduled rally in Dhaka.
Earlier BNP sought permission twice from authorities to hold rally on Jan 5 to mark party-declared 'Democracy Killing Day'.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the demonstration program in a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Friday (Jan 5).
BNP sought permission for holding rally at Suhrawardy Udyan but denied. Later they sought permission to hold that rally at Paltan but Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) denied it on Thursday (January 04).
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shibli Noman of Motijheel told Banglanews that there is no scope to hold rallies at Paltan area. It is not possible to hold rally on the road. The road belongs to the City Corporation. We can’t give permission.
However, DMP rejected BNP’s request as it had allowed United Islamic Party-an Islamic party to hold a rally at the same venue on that day.
