'Polls to be held in due time, BNP can’t foil it' Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader

DHAKA: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said the next general election will be held in due time as per constitution whether the opposition BNP joins or not.

Moreover, he also threw a challenge to BNP saying, “If you have the ability to foil the election, you can go ahead and dare try.”

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remark while addressing a rally marking the “Victory Day for Democracy” organized by Dhaka North AL unit in Dhaka’s Banani playground on Friday (January 5).

Earlier BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed warned that polls won’t be allowed to be held without BNP’s participation.

Referring to Moudud’s remark, Quader said, “If BNP don’t join then it will be like a second-time suicide committing for them. Polls will be held as per constitution and BNP can dare try stopping it.”

Terming January 5 as people’s Victory Day for democracy, he also said ‘today is BNP’s Political Suicide Day’.

Quader also expressed hope that Awami League will be victorious in the next election under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
