DHAKA: The 19th session of the 10th Parliament, which is also the winter session of 2018, began in the afternoon on Sunday (January 07).

The session began at about 4:00 pm with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. The 19th session will continue till February 28.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Parliament which was held before beginning of the session. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also chaired the meeting.

The meeting finalized the duration and proceedings of the winter session.

Just after beginning of the session, the Speaker announced names of the five-member panel of chairmen. Members of the panel are- Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan, Panchanan Biswas, BM Mozammel Haque, Fakhrul Imam and Syeda Sayera Mohsin,  

The nominated members will conduct the proceedings of Parliament in chronological order in the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to deliver his speech in the Parliament in the evening. The President delivers speech in the first day of the first session every year.

The President’s speech was approved in the Cabinet meeting on December 07.

Earlier on December 20, President Abdul Hamid called the current session exercising the power bestowed upon him as per clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution.
