DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday (January 07) granted the anticipatory bail to President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Advocate Zainul Abedin and its Secretary Barrister AM Mahbubuddin Khokon in two vandalism cases.
The HC bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Md Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman granted the anticipatory bail for the duo for six months after hearing bail petition filed by two SCBA leaders.
Vice president of the SCBA Md Oji Ullah, who is a pro-Awami League lawyer, moved for Zainul Abedin and Mahbubuddin Khokon, while deputy attorney general AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir moved on behalf of the state.
Police filed the two cases with city’s Shahbagh Police Station on January 03 on charge of vandalizing vehicles and obstructing police from discharging duties. The BNP leaders and activists gathered in the road on the day as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia appeared before a special court at Bakshibazar in the city.
SCBA President Zainul Abedin is a vice-chairman of the BNP, while Mahbubuddin Khokon is joint secretary general of the party.
