DHAKA: A total of 14 cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been shifted to the makeshift court located in city’s Bakshibazar.
Law ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard earlier on Thursday (January 4). As per the notice, the concerned judge of Bakshibazar court will conduct the trial of the temporary court.
Trial of another two cases- Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust- against Khaleda is currently undergoing at the Bakshibazar court.
Of the 14 transferred cases, nine were under trial at Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court, 3 were in Special Judge’s Court and two were in Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Three of the 14 cases were lodged during the tenure of caretaker government, 10 cases were lodged in 2015 and another one in 2016.
Currently, Khaleda Zia is placing arguments before the temporary court in the Zia Orphanage case. Hearing on Khaleda’s argument in Zia Charitable case will be held on January 9, 10. After the arguments, the court will deliver its verdict.
