Fakhrul sees no sign of fair election

DHAKA: BNP secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said he has not seen any evidence to indicate that the upcoming general election will be free and fair.

He came up with the remark after a joint meeting held at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office on Monday (Jan 8).

Fakhrul said, “Country will face political volatility when the government will try to create lots of smoke around for barring people from exercising their franchise. Otherwise there is no chance of instability in the election year.”

Criticizing ruling party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a leader without voter, he said Hasina should quit and call for a fresh election.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP chief’s adviser Abdus Salam, organizing secretary Fazlul Huq Milon and other senior party leaders were present at the time.
