DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir termed the Wednesday’s speech of the Prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Jatiya Sangsad about former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as ‘poisonous arrow in the heart of democracy’.

He came up with the assertion at a press conference in city’s Naya Paltan central office on Thursday morning (January 11).

Earlier on Wednesday (Jan 10), PM Hasina criticized the opposition party chief Khaleda Zia’s activities in her speech during Jatiya Sangsad session. 

In response to that remarks, Fakhrul said, “PM speech was like an arrow hacking the democracy. Her bitter and hideous remarks on Khaleda are not only unexpected or unfortunate but also invoke suspicion among countrymen about the neutrality of the upcoming general election. Such hateful speech will only create division in the political atmosphere.”

Alleging that ruling party men have started spreading extreme falsehood against BNP chief Khaleda Zia, Fakhrul said, “the main reason they are doing it because Khaleda got in the way of their corruption and misdeeds. Ruling men are suffering from brain dysfunction by Khaleda-phobia.”

The BNP leader also claimed that Khaleda Zia is a great leader and she dealing with such distress day-to-day with great patience, restraint and respect. Awami League is already afraid to see the rising popularity of BNP ahead of the election.
