DHAKA: Awami League has started selling nomination papers for the mayoral by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) from Saturday (January 13).

The sale of forms began at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi at around 10am. It will continue till January 15.

Interested aspirants can buy a nomination form by depositing Tk 25,000.

The ruling party will pick a candidate for the by-polls after interviewing the aspirants, at a meeting of AL’s local government polls nomination board on January 16.

The Election Commission fixed February 26 for the by-election.

According to AL Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, meanwhile, Haque group’s Managing Director Adam Tamizi Haque and Poet Rasel Ashiki have collected the nomination papers till filing this report at around 1:00pm. 

However, DNCC mayor post fell vacant after the death of Annisul Huq at a London hospital on November 30.
