DHAKA: BNP nominated Tabith Awal to contest the mayoral by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters on Monday night (January 15) that the party’s nomination board has finalized Tabith’s candidacy after interviewing the five aspirants at the party chairperson's Gulshan office. The board was headed by the party chief Khaleda Zia.

Tabith, son of BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo, also contested the DNCC polls in 2015 from the same party.

However, the mayoral by-polls to the DNCC is scheduled to be held on February 26. The mayor post fell vacant following the death of Mayor Annisul Huq at a London hospital on November 30 last year.
