DHAKA: BNP Standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was detained on charge of leading an attack on a prison van and snatching the detainees, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.
The DMP chief told Banglanews that Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has been detained based on specific information in connection with his leadership in snatching the detainees after carrying out an attack on the prison van.
“He will be shown arrested in regular case and will be sent to the court Wednesday (January 31)”, Asaduzzman added.
Earlier, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police nabbed Goyeshwar in front of Police Plaza in Gulshan at around 09:45pm.
On Tuesday (January 30), BNP activists allegedly snatched two other activists from a prison van, after carrying out an attack on the police and vandalizing the vehicle on the road before the High Court.
At that time, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was on way to her Gulshan home after appearing before a special court at Dhaka’s Bakshibazar in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
