DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party will not participate in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad election while party chairperson Khaleda Zia is in prison.
He further said there will be no election in country without Khaleda Zia and BNP will not join even if there is one.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks at a human chain organized in front of the National Press Club on Monday (February 12) demanding withdraw of all cases filed against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia who is currently in prison.
BNP started the human chain program around 11:00am with the participation of thousands of supporters who gathered there from early morning. Moreover, leaders of 20-party alliance also took part in the human chain.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The democratic movement will continue till Khaleda Zia is not being released from jail. We must ensure Khaleda’s release by organizing peaceful movement to establish democracy.”
The BNP secretary general also demanded for a fair election under polls-time supportive government. Most of the senior BNP leaders were present at the human chain led by Mirza Fakhrul.
